The New Stuff Chronicles #6: Meet Centurion

Here we go with the 6th episode of the New Stuff Chronicles. In the previous episode I informed you about Fluffy and now it’s time for another computer to be announced. Only big difference is that it’s a desktop instead of a laptop this time.

Meet Centurion:

Like Tiger I named this one after a part of it. Tiger was named after it’s mainboard which is a Tyan Tiger MPX, but Centurion is named after it’s case: a Cooler Master Centurion 534.

Like my other PCs, Centurion will soon have it’s own page on this site alongside Slashdev, Tiger, Fluffy, Stoomketel and Oud Brik.

Centurion’s purpose is to replace Slashdev as my main gaming PC back at home, while Slashdev will be relocated to my appartment in Heerlen where it will replace Tiger which will get a new role as home server. “Then why not put Centurion at your appartment?” you might ask. Well, the answer is simple: gaming power is too inviting to play games. While Slashdev is still more than adaquate to my gaming needs, Centurion is quite a bit more powerfull. I just needed a machine that is a little better on desktop performance than Tiger is and I want to use Tiger as a server. I also want a good gaming PC back at home where I am during the weekends so I can play any game I want while I’m there.

That’s about all I have to tell about Centurion at this time.

Über Zombie

Über Zombie

Well, this has actually nothing to do with my previous post in which I announced an upcoming update about some stuff, but this is interesting as well.

This post is about a computer game that I made together with two friends in 48 hours and 10 minutes including sleeping hours. It is called Über Zombie and it’s all about killing as many zombies als possible without getting killed yourself. You can play the game with up to three people on one pc using the keyboard and two gamepads/joysticks. There is no story whatsoever, but who needs a story for a pointless zombie slaughtering fest anyway?

The graphics are created by me with the exception of the blood particle texture, which was made by Michiel “NecroDOME” Gijbels. All sounds were created by me and cost nothing but a few plastic bags. The programming credits go to Michiel and Frank “Mad Woody” van Gent. Here are a few screenshots as well as some video’s that were recorded using FRAPS.

It all started with the idea of creating a complete computer game in two days. It turned out that it took about 10 minutes longer than that, but that doesn’t matter, the point is that we have proven that it is very well possible to create a very fun and challenging game in just two days. Here is the first screenshot that was taken. It’s a very early graphical test:

Now I have a video for you. This video shows an early test as well, but not as early as the first screenshot. In this version it was allready possible to shoot zombies, but not much more than that:

Now come a few less early shots, but still not the final version. In this version all players look the same, and the zombies aren’t spawned properly in the map, but the basic gameplay in the same as in the final version:

The next video is an almost final version video. The players have different colors so it’s less confusing with which one you’re playing, but the zombies aren’t spawning yet how they should be spawning:

It’s time for an update

I haven’t posted in something like a month now and a lot has happened. I passed the first year of my Network Infrastructure Design study, I bought new stuff, I have a temporary holiday job at one of the worlds biggest companies, if not the biggest and I’ve been on a vacation on which I have taken some interesting pictures.

Amoung the stuff I have bought are a new game for my Nintendo DS, a DVD movie and a board game, that’s right, a board game. I will tell you all about all this stuff and my vacation in a seperate post for each one soon, so expect some medium sized to big updates soon.
