Maintainance

Nov 24 2006

Just an announcement here; the site is undergoing some heavy maintainance. This gallery thing was starting to drive me completely nuts. Uploading pictures through it simply didn’t work satisfyingly… It simply created the files on the server with permissions set in a way that I couldn’t do anything with them and I want to have full control over my own files.

When the author of the gallery plugin didn’t respond to my messages asking for help to fix this I decided to remove the whole thing, which is the cause of the missing pictures everywhere.
I have allready started on fixing this, but it will take some time as I now have to manage my thumbnails all by myself, what a drag.
Anyway, the built-in images feature of wordpress doesn’t give me that crap, so I can conclude that it’s fgallery’s fault, but it no longer matters, I’ve quit on that one, so no more trouble with it.

So, probably in a few days from now, all the pictures will be working again and if required, I’ll simply make seperate pages for large image galleries, the old fashioned simple way.
Until then, I don’t expect to post anything new, but I can tell you what the next real post will be about: Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City for Nintendo DS.

Strange RAM module

Nov 10 2006

I found this PCB with some chips on it and it turned out to be a RAM module of some sort. I haven’t seen any module like it before and I have absolutely no idea where or how I got it.

According to the logos on the chips the little thing was manufactured by a company named UMC and the model number that is printed on the chips is UM61 3232AF-7 9638S MM4Y59 on the 2 big ones and UM61 256S-15 9631S M40721 on the little one.

Allthough I gathered all this and that I know what it is doesn’t mean that I know what it’s for. Quite the contrary, I have no clue what it can be used for. It doesn’t look like a PC RAM module, so I suppose that it would be a rather good idea to not even try it.

Globe Thingy

I’d like to have this thing identified, just to be sure what it’s for. Please leave a comment if you know something about it.

Cisco Expo 2006

Nov 10 2006

Today’s blog has one big major subject: The Cisco Expo 2006.
The Cisco Expo is a fair organised by, who else could it be, Cisco. During this show some demonstrations and scheduled presentations will occupy your day and such a fair can be very informative if the subject suits you.

Some of Cisco’s partners as well as their own consumer brand, Linksys, were also there to demonstrate some of their latest innovations in the IT sector.
Companies that were there included Vodaphone, KPN, Systimax, IBM and triple P.

I’m not going to describe all the presentations and demonstrations in detail, there is no need for that, but just a very little report about the day and some pictures of goodies. Which makes me wonder why I brought my camera and didn’t take any pictures while I was there… Truth can be so much stranger than fiction.

In this post I mentioned an issue with the server which prevented me from uploading the pictures. Well, the issue has been resolved and the pictures can be found here.

In my previous post I told you about the dual socket motherboard (or mainboard if you will) that I bought and now, almost a few days later, it’s a fully assembled pc.

You can see the specs on the PCs page and then click Tiger, or you can simply click here to see it all.

Some changes will be made to it over time, but for the time being, this is it.
