YASP (Yet Another Shopping Spree)

Before I continue with today’s subject I’ll do a little clearing up on why there still aren’t any pictures in my previous post. The gallery is working and so is the rest of the webspace, but there is some trouble with uploading a large amount of images at once. The FTP denies direct access to the required folder, which is probably caused by the fact that the folder was created with the wrong permissions by the gallery script. This means that I would have to upload all 58 pictures seperately… Thanks, but no thanks. So those pictures will have to wait untill this has been resolved and since I can’t do it myself (I have no root access), an administrator of my webhost will have to fix it for me and then I’ll look at the script to see if I can change the permissions it sets on new folders.

So, on to today’s stuff, I bought 2 DVD’s and a DVD-ROM! Not actually 2 movies, but a compilation DVD and the first season of a series and the DVD-ROM isn’t really a game either… It’s an expansion pack for one of my favourite modern games.

DVD’s

The Shield
The Shield is a police style drama series that, unlike most series, is one that caught my attention. I’m not much of a series-watcher, but this is one of the little few series that are worth the money you spend on them when you buy it on DVD. The Shield is about a “special force” within a police corps consisting of a handfull of detectives that aren’t exactly honest. The main character in the series is Victor “Vic” Mackey and he’s one hell of a bad-ass cop. But even for him and his dirty practices not everything goes exactly as planned and that is mostly what this series is all about.
I think it’s not without good reason that this series got the most Emmy award nominations ever in history. At least I think it’s good… mmmmm… 13 episodes…
Nacht van de Wansmaak
A little while back I got the second DVD of De Nacht van de Wansmaak and now I bought the first one (logic, anyone?). Needless to say, this is more or less the same as the other one, just with other commentaries and other trailers. I love it.

DVD-ROM

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point
F.E.A.R. Extraction Point is the first expansion for Monolith’s award winning horror themed first person shooter F.E.A.R. of which I have the Director’s Edition DVD version and which is, in my opinion, one of the best first person shooters in recent history.

I haven’t yet gotten to playing this expansion yet, but from what I read about it I take it that it’s simply more of the same and that is exactly what I want. I don’t think that F.E.A.R. was pityfully short, but after I finished it the first thought that came up was “I WANT MORE!” and now it’s here: more.

Last note

Tomorrow I’ll be getting some “new” interesting hardware, so check back tomorrow as I’ll blog about that tomorrow when I have it.

Going by that description, the lead character from The Shield and Jack Bauer from 24 actually have a lot in common. Jack is not so much of a bad cop, though: he’s a Patriot by heart, defending his country and putting up with extreme torture instead of ratting out. He has to make some tough sacrifices here and there, and as comes naturally for the character, the job always comes first. It usually involves breaking protocol and (in one instance) killing his superior at the behest of a terrorist.

The most important difference between 24 and the Shield though, is that the Shield didn’t bore me. I tried watching 24, oh how I tried, but it just didn’t do anything for me and the camerawork annoyed me.

I think we have established that by now. :)
